  • What if something happens and I am unable to go on the trip. Can I get a refund on the money I've paid?
No. Since mission trip payments are considered a tax-deductible donation, the IRS does not allow us to make refunds, and the money cannot be used to pay for non-tax deductible expenses such as beach camp or other Student Ministry activities.

  • How do I know if I'm "qualified" to be a part of the mission trip?
We ask that all students that participate on short-term mission trips meet the following spiritual criteria:

    1. Have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
    2. Have been scripturaly baptized by immersion after your salvation experience.
    3. Have active membership in a church ministry, such as Bible study fellowship, music ministry, etc.

  • I attend church at the North Campus of Prestonwood. Can I still go on this Mission Trip?
Yes! Contact the Prestonwood North Student Ministry Office for details.

  • Are scholarships available?
Prestonwood makes a significant financial investment for each participant by providing a large portion of the cost for church members. Because of this investment, we are unable to provide any additional financial assistance for students. However, as in previous years, all students will have several opportunities to raise money to help pay for mission trip costs.

  • What kinds of fundraising opportunities do I have?
There are three different ways you can raise funds. We strongly encourage you to participate in all three programs!

    • Student for Hire - You can sign up to participate in the program that runs from April to June. Church members hire students for various jobs, and funds earned will be credited to your mission trip account.
    • Donation Letters - Students may choose to send a personalized donation letter to family and friends that gives details about the trip and provides an opportunity for donors to give financial and prayer support to the student. Instructions on how to submit addresses to the Student Worship Ministry office will be provided to each student who wishes to participate. Students will prepare their letters and envelopes for mailing after rehearsal/training on Sunday, April 18. Postage will be paid for by the Student Worship Ministry.
    • Fall Follies - Proceeds raised through the Fall Follies show held in October will benefit students who participated in the show. The specific amount each student receives will be announced in May and the credit will be deducted from the second payment due. (Invoices sent out in May will reflect this credit. These funds cannot be used towards the deposit.)

In previous years, many students who have participated in all three of these fundraisers have raised more than enough funds for their trip!

  • How do I find out how much money has been donated to my account?
Funds raised will be included on the payment invoices mailed two weeks prior to each due date. A complete list of donors will be emailed with the final payment invoice.

  • If I raise more money than I need for the trip, will I get a refund?
If you participate in fundraising opportunities and end up with more than $795 ($1.400 for non-members) in your account, the excess funds will go into the general trip budget. We cannot issue refunds on the overage since the donations are tax deductible. The majority of the fundraising opportunities will happen in the fall, so students could potentially earn a major portion of the trip cost before the second payment is due.

  • If I raise more than I need, can the extra money be transferred to another person in my family?
Yes! We will make adjustments on accounts for immediate family members only.

  • Are there any attendance requirements?
Attendance to rehearsals and training sessions is vital! You must meet the minimum attendance requirement (75%) in order to participate on the trip. Attendance requirements go into effect beginning Sunday, April 11. When you sign up for the trip, agree to attend the following number of times for each activity listed below:
    • Sunday afternoon rehearsals and training, beginning Sunday, April 11 (7 out of 10 rehearsals--held at both campuses)
    • Family group meetings (5 out of 7 meetings--held at both campuses)
    • Two mandatory rehearsals/meetings on July 6 & 7
    • Homecoming Concert on Sunday, July 18, at 5 p.m., Prestonwood Plano campus

  • Is there any way to have an absence excused?
There are no "excused absences." You can be absent up to three times from rehearsals, and two times from family group meetings. All absences, whether due to illness, vacation, school-related events, sports activities, employment, family or ministry activities, will count toward the total absences allowed.

  • Is the Homecoming Concert mandatory?
Yes! Prestonwood makes a significant investment in each mission trip participant's life, both spiritually and financially. This is your opportunity to celebrate the results of the mission trip and express your appreciation to the church family.

  • My family has vacation plans at the end of the mission trip. Can I make separate flight plans?
No. All mission trip participants are required to fly to and from Boston with their assigned group. Flight deviations, late arrivals and/or early departures will not be permitted.
